Cat Boarding Requirements in Dubai: A Pre-Travel Checklist
Most owners meet the cat boarding requirements in Dubai about four days before a flight, which is roughly a fortnight too late. The requirements themselves are not onerous. The difficulty is that the one that matters most is a date, and a date cannot be fixed in an afternoon.
What follows is the checklist we give owners who ring us in June and in December, when half the city seems to be leaving at once. It covers the weeks before the trip rather than the bag she arrives with — the bag is a separate question, and any facility worth using will hand you its own list when you book.
The vaccination date stops more bookings than availability does
We require vaccination to be current before check-in, and any facility worth using will ask the same. It sounds like a formality and it cancels more bookings than anything else does, because owners answer the question from memory and then the card says something different.
Go and look at the card now. A booster that is due can still be given at drop-off, but a dose administered on the morning of check-in is a record entry rather than protection — the immune response needs the fortnight the booking has already used up. Two weeks of warning turns a cancelled stay into an ordinary appointment. What each course covers is set out on our vaccination requirements page.
Registration and the rabies certificate are the second document check
Boarding assumes your cat is registered with Dubai Municipality and wearing a current tag, and the certificate that registration rests on is the rabies one. It is the document a facility is most likely to ask for by name, and the one owners are least likely to be able to lay hands on quickly.
Find it before the week of the flight rather than during it. A lapsed registration cannot be renewed at the counter on drop-off morning, and a certificate sitting in a drawer in another country is the same problem as not having one at all. Photograph the tag and the certificate and keep the pictures on your phone — it will not always be accepted in place of the original, but it settles a question quickly.
Dubai empties in waves, and the cat rooms fill first
Residents here travel on a pattern you can almost set a calendar by — the long exodus from June, the Eid weeks, and the December break. Cat accommodation is the first thing to go, for a structural reason rather than a commercial one. A cats-only area is by definition small. It is a separate quiet room away from every bark, not a row of runs, so there is no version of it that expands in August.
Book it before you book the flight if you can, or at least on the same afternoon. Owners who ring a week out are usually choosing between whatever is left rather than where they wanted her to be.

What can be arranged in two days, and what cannot
A good deal of travel out of this city is decided at short notice — work, or something at home, and the flight is the day after tomorrow. Ring anyway rather than assuming the answer is no, and describe the vaccination position accurately instead of hoping nobody asks for the card.
A consultation and a due booster can be arranged quickly, and so, at quiet times of year, can a room. What cannot be compressed is the interval a vaccine needs before it counts for anything. Knowing which half of that applies to you is worth five minutes on the telephone before you drive over.
Drop-off day is a heat problem before it is anything else
For much of the year the car journey is the riskiest part of the entire stay. Cool the car before she goes into it, keep the carrier out of direct sun, and do not leave her in a parked vehicle while you run one last errand — a closed car in Dubai reaches dangerous temperatures within minutes, and a cat cannot shed heat the way you can.
Take the earliest slot the facility offers. It is cooler, it is quieter, and it gives her the daylight hours to work out where the water and the litter tray are before the building goes still for the night.
A cat on medication is a medical booking, not a hotel one
If she is diabetic, on daily tablets, recovering from an operation, or simply fifteen years old, the question stops being where she will be comfortable and becomes who is qualified to look after her. Medication has to be given on schedule and written into a record, and an elderly cat who quietly stops drinking needs to be picked up within hours rather than at the end of the week.
Say this when you book rather than at the door. It changes what a facility is able to accept and what the stay is priced at, and a place that discovers it at check-in may reasonably turn her away. What an inpatient stay actually involves is on our boarding service page.
What it costs
Cat boarding at Petbook is AED 60 per night for a cat who needs no medication, and it is the same rate whatever her size. If a booster does turn out to be due, the vaccination package is AED 199 and the consultation that goes with it is AED 120. Those are published prices rather than estimates, and what a cats-only stay includes day by day is on our cat boarding in Dubai page.
