While you drive
What to do in the first five minutes
General first aid only, and none of it replaces the phone call. Do what you can safely do, then come straight in.
- Heatstroke: move to shade or AC and wet the paws, ears and belly with room-temperature water — never ice
- Poisoning: bring the packet, box or plant with you, and don't make your pet vomit unless a vet tells you to
- Bleeding: press a clean cloth firmly on the wound and keep the pressure on for the whole drive
- Seizure: clear the space around your pet, keep hands away from the mouth, and note the time it started
