Males and females, toy breeds and giants. A physical examination before any anesthetic, monitoring from the first injection until your dog lifts her head, and a written plan for the fortnight at home.
Owners rarely lose sleep over the incision. They lose sleep over the anesthetic, so let's start there. Before your dog is asleep a licensed vet examines her that morning, pre-anesthetic blood work is run in our own lab when advised, and the anesthetic is matched to her weight and condition. If anything looks off at that check, we postpone.
Dog neutering in Dubai at Petbook starts at AED 650 for males and spaying at AED 850 for females, both published on our vet prices page rather than quoted after a phone call. The words are not interchangeable: neutering removes the testicles, spaying removes the ovaries and uterus.
Size drives the rest. A 4 kg Maltese and a 45 kg Rottweiler are not booked to the same timetable and do not cost the same, so the figure is confirmed after the examination and before we start — never at collection. That morning check is the same examination our dog vet in Dubai runs at any routine visit, and the monitoring routine every patient gets is set out on our spay and neuter service page.
Neuter from AED 650 spay from AED 850 — published, and the exact figure fixed before surgery, not after.
A physical examination every time, plus blood work in our in-house lab when the vet advises it — read the same visit.
A chihuahua and a great dane are not the same conversation. Timing and dose are decided per dog, not by a rule of thumb.

I highly recommend this veterinary clinic! They truly care about pets as if they were their own babies. Every time my cats have been sick, the team has always followed up to check on their recovery & see if they needed anything else. That level of care & compassion means so much to me 🤍
I had a wonderful experience at Petbook Veterinary Clinic in Al Quoz with my 9-month-old male Turkish Angora cat, Meiko. A special thank you to Dr. Emad and Miss Charrie for their excellent care, kindness, patience, and professionalism.
I had all three of my cats vaccinated at this clinic, and I couldn't be happier with the service. The veterinarians and staff were very professional, gentle, and caring with my cats, making the entire experience smooth and stress-free.

Published figures. Weight sets the final number, and you get it before surgery — not on collection.
Both figures start at "from" for one reason: weight. A 5 kg dog and a 45 kg dog do not use the same amount of anything, so the exact number is set after the pre-surgery examination and confirmed to you before we begin. Would rather have your dog looked at first? A consultation is AED 120 and the vet will say honestly whether to book now or wait a few months. Everything else is on the vet prices page.
Testicles removed. Roaming, marking and the urge to get past the gate usually settle over the weeks that follow.

Ovaries and uterus removed. Seasons stop, and the womb infection that lands older females in emergency surgery is off the list.

Six stages, all of them known to you before you hand over the lead.
Heart, chest, gums, weight, and any history of coughing, fits or an earlier anesthetic. Blood work in our in-house lab when advised, read before the date is confirmed.
Exact fasting hours in writing for your dog's age and size — a toy breed fasts less than a big adult. Water stays down until you leave, unless we say otherwise.
Ten minutes: consent signed, a last weight and temperature check, and the vet confirms the plan or postpones it. You leave a number and go to work.
The part you are worried about. Breathing, heart rate, oxygen and temperature are followed from the first injection until she lifts her head — by a person, not a beeping machine.
Our own theatre in Al Quoz 3, not outsourced and not squeezed between consultations. A spay opens the abdomen and takes longer than a neuter — the reason the prices differ.
Recovery in a warm, quiet ward under observation; nobody leaves until they are alert and steady. Most dogs go home the same evening with pain relief, a cone and aftercare notes.
Photographs taken inside the clinic — our own patients, clients and team, not stock images.
The surgery happens in the operating room at our Al Quoz 3 clinic, with breathing, heart rate, oxygen and temperature followed from the first injection until your dog is awake. Nobody is discharged until they are alert and steady on their feet, and you leave with a number that is answered at three in the morning as readily as at three in the afternoon.
The operation is the same anywhere. Living with a dog here changes what happens either side of it.
Two weeks of restricted exercise is easy in a cooled flat and miserable on hot ground. A July recovery means dawn and late-evening toilet breaks only.
A shepherd that normally runs loose for an hour needs a plan: short lead walks before sunrise, scent games indoors, no dog park until we check the incision.
Dubai's free-roaming population grows one accidental litter at a time, and the rescues here are permanently full. One routine surgery keeps your dog out of that arithmetic.
An intact male will dig under a gate or find the gap in a hedge, and a female in season draws every roaming dog in the compound to your gate.
Relocation agents and receiving countries commonly ask for sterilization status alongside the microchip and rabies record, and municipality registration runs on a complete file — logged the same day.
Eight puppies means eight vaccination courses, eight deworming schedules and months of rehoming in a city that already has too many. Against AED 850 not a close comparison.
For small and medium breeds the usual window is around six months — before or just after the first season for females, once both testicles have descended for males. Large and giant breeds are where the honest answer gets longer: their growth plates close later, and vets genuinely disagree about how early sterilization interacts with joint development in some big breeds. One number does not cover a chihuahua and a rottweiler, so the date is set at the consultation.
There is no upper limit at the other end. Adult and senior females are spayed routinely, usually after blood work, and the case gets stronger with age: pyometra — the womb infection unspayed females are prone to later in life — usually arrives as emergency surgery at an inconvenient hour, and a spay removes the organ it starts in. Males that roam or mark are neutered at any age too.
The fortnight after surgery should be boring. These should not wait for the recheck — our line is answered around the clock.
Spaying a female starts from AED 850 at Petbook and neutering a male from AED 650 with the pre-anesthetic examination, pain relief, the cone and written aftercare inside that price. Weight is what moves the final figure, so it is fixed after the examination and confirmed to you before surgery rather than added at collection. Prices across Dubai vary widely, which is exactly why we publish ours.
From AED 850 at our Al Quoz 3 clinic. A spay is a longer operation than a male neuter — the abdomen is opened and the ovaries and uterus removed — which is why it costs more than the AED 650 neuter. A small terrier sits at the bottom of the range and a large-breed female higher up, and you are told which before the day.
Around six months for small and medium breeds, before or just after the first season. For large and giant breeds the answer is genuinely less settled: their skeletons finish later and many vets prefer to wait past a year. Any clinic that gives you one number without asking the breed is guessing. Book the AED 120 consultation and you will leave with a date that fits your dog.
Happier is not something a vet can measure, so we will stick to what changes. No seasons, no weeks of bleeding and confinement twice a year, no male dogs camped outside the gate, and no pyometra to worry about later. Personality stays as it was — spaying does not make a boisterous dog calm, and we would rather say so than sell you that.
Breeding and selling animals here is regulated and needs the appropriate licenses, and an accidental litter at home is a different matter altogether — rehoming eight puppies responsibly in Dubai is far harder than most owners expect. If a licensed, deliberate breeding program is not the plan, sterilization is the simpler answer. For the current rules, check with Dubai Municipality directly rather than with us.
