Pet Deworming in Dubai — Parasite Control for Cats and Dogs

Worms, fleas and ticks are a year-round problem here, not a seasonal one. We examine, weigh, treat and set the schedule — no guessing off a pet-shop shelf.

Why it matters

A pet with worms usually looks fine

Deworming is the least interesting item on a pet's health plan and one of the most important. In Dubai, cats and dogs pick parasites up from sand, from the community cats around the compound, from park grass and from fleas — and an animal can carry worms for weeks while looking completely well.

At Petbook Veterinary Clinic in Al Quoz 3 this is never guesswork off a shelf. A licensed veterinarian examines your pet, weighs them, and asks how they actually live — indoors, on the balcony, in the park, around other animals, with small children at home — then chooses the right treatment and interval for that animal. It is dispensed from our in-house veterinary pharmacy in the same visit.

Deworming is already one of the items inside our First and Annual vaccination packages at AED 199, so most pets get it handled in a visit they were coming for anyway. If something looks wrong now — worms you can see, diarrhea that won't settle, a kitten that isn't thriving — don't wait for the next round: our emergency line is answered 24/7.

  • The vet chooses, not the shelf

Type and frequency follow your pet's age, weight and lifestyle — we weigh and dose at the visit.

  • In-house pharmacy

Whatever your pet needs is dispensed in the same visit — no second stop on the way home.

  • Worms and what carries them

Fleas and ticks are the same Dubai problem. We check coat and skin while your pet is on the table.

  • Inside the AED 199 package

Deworming is one of the items in both the First and Annual Vaccination Package.

Thank you so much for the excellent service and attention. The lab results arrived earlier than expected. The deworming medication was a complete success. My cat Mini is incredibly grateful to you, and I am even more grateful to have found you.

I highly recommend this veterinary clinic! They truly care about pets as if they were their own babies. Every time my cats have been sick, the team has always followed up to check on their recovery & see if they needed anything else. That level of care & compassion means so much to me 🤍

Step by step

How a deworming visit works

A short visit, six steps — each one there so the treatment fits your animal instead of an average one.

  1. Step 01

    Same-day appointment

Message us on WhatsApp. Most deworming visits are quick, and we can usually fit them in the same day.

  2. Step 02

    Examination and weight

Your pet is examined and weighed. Almost everything that follows is decided by that number.

  3. Step 03

    How your pet actually lives

Indoors or on the balcony? Parks, sand, other animals, small children, travel coming? The lifestyle answers shape the plan more than the species does.

  4. Step 04

    The vet chooses the treatment

A licensed veterinarian decides which treatment and how often for your pet's age, weight and lifestyle, then dispenses it in-house.

  5. Step 05

    Fleas and ticks checked too

We go through the coat and skin while your pet is on the table. In Dubai the same lifestyle brings worms, fleas and ticks.

  6. Step 06

Recorded, and the next one flagged

It goes into your pet's file and passport, and we tell you when the next one is due — you're not tracking it from memory.

AED 199 package

Deworming is already in the AED 199 package

Our First and Annual Vaccination Packages are AED 199 and list deworming alongside the general examination and the viral vaccine. If boosters are due anyway, that is the tidiest way to get the parasite side handled — one visit, one fee.

  • General examination, fungal exam and ear check
  • Viral vaccine given by a licensed veterinarian
  • Deworming included — no separate appointment
Parasites in a Dubai year

Why deworming matters more in Dubai

Almost nothing about parasite control here follows a European calendar. Warm weather all year, community cats everywhere and sand in everything make prevention a routine, not a season.

  • Community cats are everywhere

Dubai's outdoor cat population shares car parks, compound gardens and park edges with your pet. Contact doesn't have to be direct for parasites to move.

  • Sand and soil hold on to it

Parasite eggs survive in sand and soil far longer than most owners expect — and there is plenty of both between the villa gate and the park.

  • Fleas and ticks never take a winter off

The brown dog tick and fleas breed indoors in air-conditioned comfort all year. Here, worms and biting parasites are one problem, not two.

  • Indoors is not immune

Sand comes in on shoes, insects come in off balconies — a cat that never leaves the apartment can still need treating.

  • Children in the house

Some pet parasites can pass to people, and small children are the most exposed. Routine deworming protects the household, not just the animal.

  • Records follow your pet

Treatment dates end up mattering for registration and for pets that later move abroad — so we log every one, not just give it.

How often

What decides how often your pet is dewormed

There is no single schedule that suits every pet, and we won't print one on a web page. A licensed veterinarian sets the type and the frequency at the visit — these four things change the answer.

  • Age — puppies and kittens are on a different plan from adult pets
  • Weight — treatment is matched to it, which is why we weigh at every visit
  • Lifestyle — parks, sand, balconies, hunting, contact with community cats
  • Household — other pets, small children, and any travel coming up
Don't wait for the next round

When to book a visit now, not later

Deworming is preventive care. The signs below mean your pet should be examined instead — and we can usually see them the same day.

  • Worms visible in the stool, or around the back end
  • Diarrhea or vomiting that has gone on for more than a day
  • A puppy or kitten with a swollen belly that isn't gaining weight
  • Losing weight while still eating normally
  • Dragging or scooting the back end along the floor
  • Blood in the stool, or a pet that has gone flat and off food

Common questions

Are there any ticks in the UAE?

Yes. The brown dog tick is well established here and does not disappear in winter — it lives in the same warm, sheltered places our pets do, indoors included. That is why we check coat and skin at every parasite visit, not only in summer.

What smell do ticks hate?

Home remedies and essential-oil mixes circulate a lot online, and none are reliable protection — several are unsafe for cats. Ask the vet for something suited to your pet's species and weight instead; guessing with a household mix is how pets end up needing treatment, not prevention.

Why does my dog have diarrhea after deworming?

A short, mild upset in the day after treatment is something owners report fairly often. What is not routine: diarrhea that keeps going, blood in the stool, repeated vomiting, or a dog gone flat and off its food. See any of that and book an examination rather than waiting it out.

Is deworming for cats different from dogs?

The principle is the same; the choice is not. Cats and dogs are treated with different products, and some things perfectly safe for a dog are not safe for a cat — the main reason we don't recommend picking something off a shop shelf. The vet chooses by species, age, weight and lifestyle.

Are deworming pills the only option?

No. Treatments come in more than one form, and what suits a wriggling kitten is not what suits a 30 kg dog. The vet picks the form as well as the product at the visit, and it comes from our in-house pharmacy — no second stop on the way home.
