What your dog is due — and what he is not

Dog vaccination in Dubai is AED 80 for a single viral vaccine at Petbook Veterinary Clinic in Al Quoz 3, or AED 199 for the whole visit — examination, vaccine, deworming, dental check and the record, with nothing added at the desk. Every figure the clinic publishes sits on our vet prices in Dubai page.

A dog's core vaccine is the combination owners usually call DHPP: distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and parainfluenza. Two more sit around it. Leptospirosis follows standing water and rodents, and kennel cough follows other dogs — which is why the vet asks where your dog sleeps when you travel before deciding either of them. The whole-household view is on our pet vaccination in Dubai page.

Rabies is the one nobody chooses: UAE law requires it, and the certificate is what municipality registration and any flight out are built on — that is covered on our rabies vaccine in Dubai page. And if your dog is under 10 kg, a booster and a full dog grooming session run in one appointment for AED 249.

See what sits inside AED 199
  • AED 80 a shot, AED 199 the visit

One viral vaccine on its own is AED 80. The package adds the examination, deworming, a dental check and the record for AED 199 — no consultation fee stacked on top.

  • Kennel cough for social dogs

It spreads in boarding kennels, daycare rooms and salons. If that is your dog's month the vet raises it; if he never leaves the villa, he will not.

  • The card boarding asks for

A signed record plus a digital copy we hold, so a lost booklet never costs you a kennel booking, a grooming slot or a travel date.

  • Same-day slots most days

A puppy who arrived yesterday should not wait a fortnight to start his course. Message us in the morning and we can usually see him that afternoon.

How a dog vaccination visit runs

Owners book a vaccine and get a full examination attached to it. That order matters: much of what we find on a first puppy visit has nothing to do with vaccination at all.

  1. Step 01

    What he has already had

A breeder's card, an import certificate, a shelter sheet, or nothing. Plenty of puppies arrive part-way through a course with an owner who was told it was finished.

  2. Step 02

    A full examination first

Weight, temperature, heart, chest, skin and gut. A vaccine goes into a well dog — a puppy with diarrhea today gets treated today and vaccinated later.

  3. Step 03

    His week, not a template

Boarding, daycare, dog parks, the beach, a garden with rats in the compost. Leptospirosis and kennel cough follow lifestyle, so we ask before we decide.

  4. Step 04

The vaccine he is actually due

The core canine combination against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and parainfluenza — plus whichever of the extras his life genuinely calls for.

  5. Step 05

    Deworming and a parasite check

Deworming sits inside the package, dosed by weight on the day, with ears, coat and skin folds checked for ticks while he is on the table.

  6. Step 06

    Card, digital copy, next date

You leave with the signed record and we keep the copy. Boarding, grooming and export all ask to see it, and we flag the next date before it slips.

Groom and vaccinate in one appointment — AED 249

For dogs under 10 kg we run a full groom and the vaccination in the same visit for AED 249. He is clipped, bathed and dried, a licensed veterinarian examines him and gives what he is due, and the record is updated before he goes home — one drive across Dubai instead of two, and one nervous morning instead of two.

  • Full groom plus the vaccine he is due — AED 249
  • A licensed veterinarian examines him either way
  • Under 10 kg; larger dogs quoted before we start
Dogs in Dubai

What actually threatens a dog in this city

Dubai is not a high-disease city, but it is a concentrated one. Dogs here meet in a handful of indoor venues, arrive from everywhere, and are licensed by an authority that runs on paperwork.

  • Registration is not optional

A dog kept in Dubai must be vaccinated, microchipped and registered with Dubai Municipality. The vaccination record is the document the tag is issued against.

  • Kennel cough lives where dogs gather

It travels on the air through boarding kennels, daycare floors and salons. Dogs who never board rarely need it; dogs who board twice a year do.

  • The heat concentrates the risk

For half the year nobody walks a dog outdoors at midday, so socialising collapses into a handful of indoor parks and cafés — same rooms, same dogs, all summer.

  • Parvovirus sits in the unvaccinated population

Street litters and rescues that were never covered carry it, and it survives in sand and soil for months. A puppy who meets it usually needs hospitalization.

  • Rescues arrive with no history

This city rehomes a lot of dogs, often with a card that starts halfway through or not at all. We examine first, then rebuild the course.

  • The card is asked for constantly

Boarding, grooming, export paperwork and plenty of landlords want to see it, and dogs here change country often. A gap in the record is what delays a flight.

Not every dog needs every vaccine. Leptospirosis and kennel cough are lifestyle decisions, and for a dog who never boards and never swims the honest answer is often no — you should hear that from the vet rather than find the line on the invoice.

The puppy course, and the year that follows

A puppy is not covered by his first injection. Protection is built across a short series of visits, and the immunity his mother gave him fades on its own timetable — which is why the last dose counts for more than the first.

How many doses he still needs, and how far apart, depends on the age he started and what he has already had, so the veterinarian sets the dates in the room and writes them on the card instead of copying a chart.

  • New puppies: a short series of visits, finished before he meets dogs he does not live with
  • Rescues and street pups: examined first, then a catch-up course from whatever is documented
  • Adults: one appointment a year covers the core booster, rabies and the paperwork
  • Boarding or travel already booked: start early — kennels want the course complete, not started

Reactions and warning signs that need a phone call

Two lists in one: what a bad reaction to a vaccine looks like, and what the diseases we vaccinate against look like when they arrive. Either way, ring us the same day.

  • Swelling of the face or muzzle, hives, or laboured breathing in the hours after a vaccine — this is the urgent one
  • Repeated vomiting, collapse, or a limp and unresponsive puppy after any injection
  • Bloody or foul-smelling diarrhea in a puppy with vomiting and no appetite — parvovirus moves fast and kills fast
  • A honking, hacking cough that started days after boarding, daycare or the groomer
  • Discharge from the eyes and nose with a cough and a fever in an unvaccinated dog
  • Off his food, feverish or yellow around the gums after swimming or contact with rats

Common questions

How many 5 in 1 shots do you give a puppy?

"5 in 1" is what most owners call the core canine vaccine — distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and parainfluenza, with a further component in some combinations. A puppy needs a series rather than a single dose, and how many are still outstanding depends on the age he started and what the breeder or shelter already gave him. Bring the card and the veterinarian will tell you exactly what is left. Each viral vaccine is AED 80, or AED 199 for the full visit.

Can I walk my puppy if he isn't fully vaccinated?

Not on ground other dogs use — in Dubai that means keeping him off dog parks, communal grass and the sand around the villas until the course is finished. Carrying him is fine, and so is a private garden or balcony that unvaccinated dogs never reach. The caution is worth it: parvovirus survives in sand and soil for months, and a puppy who picks it up here usually ends up hospitalized.

Can a puppy get parvo after 3 shots?

It is uncommon, but it happens. The antibodies a puppy inherits from his mother can block a vaccine from taking properly, and they fade at a slightly different time in every litter — so a dose given while they are still active does less than it should. That is why the final dose of the series is the one that counts, and why we do not treat a puppy as covered until the veterinarian says the course is complete.

Can a 2 month old puppy get vaccinated?

Yes — a puppy that age is normally either ready to start his course or already partway through it. What we will not do is hand you a fixed week-by-week chart on a webpage, because the right starting point depends on his weight, his health on the day and what his breeder or shelter gave him. Bring him in with whatever paperwork exists and we will set the dates properly.

How long after the 3rd vaccination can a puppy go out?

There is a gap between the last injection and full cover, and the veterinarian will give you the figure for your own puppy at the visit. The more useful date in Dubai is usually the one boarding kennels, daycare and groomers ask for: most want the course finished rather than started, plus kennel cough cover if he is staying overnight. If a stay or a flight is already booked, say so at the first appointment and we will work the timing backwards from it.
