What a cat grooming session includes
One cat at a time, in a room without barking. Here is what a full cat grooming session in Dubai covers at Petbook — and where we stop and check with you rather than pushing on.

A quiet room and a minute to settle
Your cat comes out of the carrier in its own time. Nothing starts while a cat is still panicking — the first minute saves ten later.
- Step 02
Comb-through and mat mapping
A comb-through maps every knot before water is involved. Water tightens a mat, so felted areas are dealt with dry, one section at a time.
- Step 03
Bath with a cat-safe shampoo
A gentle, cat-formulated shampoo — never a dog product. Some cats skip the bath and do better with a dry de-shed, and that is a fine outcome.
- Step 04
Low-noise, low-heat drying
Cats find loud dryers far more frightening than water. We dry at low heat and low noise, with towel work doing most of the job.
- Step 05
Claws, ears and eye corners
Claws trimmed to a safe length, ears checked and cleaned, and the eye corners wiped — the tear staining flat-faced Persians live with.

Sanitary trim — lion cut only if needed
A sanitary and paw-pad trim finishes most cats. A lion cut is offered only when a coat is past saving, and we check the skin as it comes off.

Why cat coats struggle in Dubai
Almost every cat here is an indoor cat, living in air conditioning nearly all year. That sounds gentle on a coat, but it removes the two things that keep one in order — a real shedding season, and rough ground.

How often a Dubai cat needs grooming
Kittens can have a short introduction groom once the first vaccination course is complete — a comb, a claw trim, and being put back down while they are still calm. A cat that learns the table early is a cat you can still groom at twelve.
- Long-haired cats (Persian, Himalayan, Ragdoll, Maine Coon): every 4–6 weeks
- Short-haired cats: every 8–12 weeks, mainly claws, ears and a de-shed
- Kittens: a short introduction groom after the first vaccination course
- Senior or arthritic cats: shorter sessions, split across two visits if needed

When your cat needs a vet before a groom
Some of what looks like a coat problem is a health problem wearing a coat. If you are seeing any of these, call us and we will examine your cat first.

- Sudden over-grooming, or bald patches on the belly or back legs
- Head shaking, or dark gritty discharge in one ear
- A cat that has stopped grooming itself — often the first sign of pain

Why is my cat shedding so much in the summer?
In Dubai the answer is usually air conditioning rather than the season. Indoor cats lose the cues that drive a normal moult, so instead of one heavy spring shed they shed all year — and it feels worst in summer, when humidity mats the loose hair before it reaches the floor.
Why is my cat grooming all the time?
A lot of grooming is normal — cats spend a large part of the waking day cleaning themselves, and it is how they regulate temperature and settle their nerves. It stops being normal when the coat changes: thinning fur, broken hairs, bald strips or skin you can see.
Why is my cat grooming excessively?
Over-grooming is usually itch, pain or stress, and all three look identical from the sofa. Fleas and skin allergies are the most common causes we see in Dubai. Because grooming happens inside a working clinic, a vet can examine your cat the same visit.
Can my cat be groomed at a vet clinic near me?
